FREE EPA-Approved Training For Renovators, Remodlers & Painters
Posted : February 24, 2010

The

Lead Elimination Action Program is offering

Free EPA-approved training of Lead Safety for Renovation, Repair and Painting

The Lead Safety for Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) training is an 8-hour course developed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

LEAP is providing FREE Lead Safety for Renovation, Repair and Painting for the following people:

Contractors and their workers

Painters

Remodelers

Property Owners

EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting Final Rule (40 CFR 745) requires that as of April 22, 2010, renovations conducted for compensation must be performed by Certified Firms using Certified Renovators. Renovators wishing to work in pre-1978 homes and child-occupied facilities must successfully complete an EPA-accredited renovator course to learn how to perform lead-safe work practices safely and effectively.  This course will teach you how to protect yourself, workers, and customers against inadvertent lead poisoning problems that can cause health, regulatory and legal issues for all involved.  Abatement contractors and people who have previously been trained in the HUD Lead Safe Work Practices course only need to take the 4 hour refresher course in order to become certified.

Trainer: Sally Odle, trainer for National Center for Healthy Housing

Sally Odle, from SafeHomes Inc. has trained over 1500 people in CT in lead safe work practices over the past few years with an interesting, informative and even entertaining approach.  Sally is certified as a Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor and Lead Project Planner/Designer in Connecticut.  She has served on the Center for Disease Control's Advisory Committee on Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention (ACCLPP). 15 years of property management/ownership and renovation of low income, multi-family units have given her a solid foundation in the issues surrounding rental properties. She has previously managed several major gut and renovation jobs, plus abatement of lead in her own rental units at time of turnover, developing a solid knowledge of construction methods.
