The Town of Windsor received
Community Health Charities of
Connecticut's Gold Award for
its outstanding workplace
wellness program at the health
charity's annual meeting at
the Aqua Turf Club in
Southington.
The town
was recognized for providing
outstanding proactive health
and wellness programs for its
employees. The town's Human
Resources department works jointly with other
departments to offer creative
ways to educate employees.
Examples of
programs include,
"Healthy Living Starts
With Healthy Eating" and
"What is Your Aging
IQ." The Town's
"Windsor University"
program invites speakers to
share their best practices on
many organizational topics
including health and wellness
issues.
The Town
offers incentives for
employees to stay well by
offering additional personal
days if employees use limited
sick time. Benefits of their
health programs, Employee
Fitness Center, Safety Week
and health screenings are
measured monthly and
quarterly.
Community
Health Charities of
Connecticut raised over $5
million in 2000 through
workplace giving campaigns in
support of the work of 34 of
Connecticut's most trusted and
respected charitable health
agencies, including the
Alzheimer's Association, March
of Dimes, Sickle Cell Disease
Association, American Cancer
Society, Special Olympics
Connecticut and others.
Community Health Charities of
Connecticut also serves as a
resource to companies for
workplace wellness programs.
More than
700 companies in Connecticut
include Community Health
Charities of Connecticut in
their employee giving
campaigns.

in 1965 by local business
leaders, Community Health
Charities is a partnership of
26 of Connecticut's leading
health charities. Community
Health Charities also supports
companies and their employees
year-long with health programs
that promote the overall
wellness of local residents,
through prevention, early
detection, treatment, research
