Job DescriptionNorthwest Park & Nature Center, a 473-acre municipal park in Windsor, CT seeks an Environmental Education Interns during the Summer 2008 season. These positions focus on front desk management and assistant with camp as needed. Opportunities exist for completing special projects that align with student goals. Interns will assist with live animal care and upkeep. Applicants should have completed their second year of study in environmental education, biology, natural science or related field, and have a strong interest in teaching. Work hours are 8:30am-4:30pm, Wednesday-Saturday. Starting date to be determined and the ending date is negotiable. $8.30 -$9.25/hr. Closing date: As filled. The specialist will develop and implement arts & crafts projects that relate to themes and age levels. Must be able to attend all staff meetings and trainings. Additional responsibilities include supervising during lunch and open swim. Windsor Recreation Services is seeking a Sports Specialist. The program is for 5-13 year olds in Windsor, CT. Must be willing to learn and utilize curriculum/lesson plans, while utilizing your creativity to make the programs Fun for the children. Create, organize and lead athletic age-appropriate activities. Some of the sports and games will be non-competitive such as New Games. We have fields which can be used for soccer, touch football, softball, tennis, softball, capture the flag, etc. The activities you plan should be geared to the various ages and take into account that some campers are with us for all 8 weeks while others are here for only a week. Develop, coordinate and teach interactive and interdisciplinary outdoor and environmental education programs for ages Pre-K through 3. Create an integrated curriculum with an emphasis on science, nature, and agriculture. Provide enthusiastic and innovative instruction through hands-on and inquiry-based methods that encourage outdoor exploration, environmental awareness, and stewardship of the natural environment. Lead groups of up to 16 children in an outdoor setting. Applicants must have at least one year of college experience and/or prior teaching or outdoor education experience. Demonstrated experience in formal and/or informal teaching desired. Ability to work in a team, ability to interact well with visitors, and physical ability to work actively throughout the property in a variety of weather conditions. Enthusiasm for working with children and sense of humor is a must. Wage is $9.00-$13.00/per hour, depending upon education and experience. Red Cross First Aid and CPR training is provided. Create an integrated curriculum with an emphasis on science, nature, agriculture, and high-adventure. Provide enthusiastic and innovative instruction, teaching through hands-on and inquiry-based methods that encourage outdoor exploration, environmental awareness, and stewardship of the natural environment. Lead groups of up to 15 children in an outdoor setting. Demonstrated experience in formal and/or informal teaching desired. Ability to work in a team, ability to interact well with visitors, and physical ability to lead active hiking and camping throughout the property and at off-site locations in a variety of weather conditions. Enthusiasm for working with children and sense of humor is a must. Plan off-site trips, overnights and supervise youth. Applicants must have at least one year of college experience and/or prior teaching or outdoor education experience Wage is $9.75-$14.75/per hour, depending upon education and experience. Assist in leading groups of up to 16 children in an outdoor setting. Demonstrated experience in formal and/or informal teaching desired. Ability to work in a team, ability to interact well with visitors, and physical ability to work actively throughout the property in a variety of weather conditions. Applicants must have at least one year of college experience and/or prior teaching or outdoor education experience. Applicants may also be considered if they have been a Junior Counselor and have graduated High School. Some extended hours may be necessary in the morning and /or afternoon, for pre and post care. Wage is $8.00-$9.00/per hour, depending upon experience. Red Cross First Aid and CPR training is provided.
