It is proposed to reconstruct the causeway on Batchelder Road leading to the Loomis Chaffee campus. The causeway, already in deteriorated condition, suffered significant bank erosion during the storms of October 2005. At that time, the roadway travel area was reduced and subsequently approximately 100 feet of roadway was changed to one way alternating traffic. This project will restore the entire causeway by excavating approximately 4 feet of unsuitable material, filling this area with road building materials, and constructing a pavement section that will allow 2 lanes of traffic. A new guiderail on both sides of the causeway will also be installed.
