Pleasant Street Reconstruction

Location: Pleasant Street

It is proposed to reconstruct Pleasant Street, from Poquonock Avenue east to just past the Amtrak Railroad Bridge. The existing pavement shows signs of physical distress because the roadway was not constructed, rather was built up over the years with various applications of asphalt and stone. Drainage is poor, and sidewalks do not extend the length of Pleasant Street. This project will provide a pavement cross section of 24 to 30 feet, add required drainage, curbing, and sidewalks for increased vehicular and pedestrian safety. Additionally, speed humps will be installed at 3 locations to assist in reducing vehicular speeds. The project is to be accomplished in 2 phases; Phase 1 is from Poquonock Avenue to about 750 feet east of the East Street intersection. Phase 2 is from there to just east of the Amtrak Railroad bridge.

Start Date : Phase 1: September 2006          Phase 2: October 2007
Completion Date : Phase 1: November 2006           Phase 2: July 2008
Cost : The total project cost is approximately $2,000,000 with $800,000 reimbursed from Community Development Block Grants and $200,000 from the Metropolitan District Commission.
Comments : The contract for the reconstruction of Phase 1 was completed by King Construction, Inc. of Bloomfield, CT. Galasso, Inc. did the paving. Phase 2 was awarded to Simscroft-Echo Farms, Inc.
