Vietnam Veteran and Lifelong Windsor Resident to Serve as Parade Marshall
The Town of Windsor Public Celebrations Committee has announced the following plans for ceremonies to be held on Monday, May 25, 2009. A ceremony will be held at the Elm Grove Cemetery located in Poquonock beginning at 8:00 AM followed by a ceremony at Veteran’s Cemetery at 9:00 AM. Following the ceremony at Veteran’s Cemetery, the Memorial Day Parade will proceed to Town Hall via Poquonock Avenue for the Parade Marshall’s address. The parade usually arrives in the center of town between 9:45 – 10:00 AM.
The 2009 Parade Marshall is US Army Vietnam Veteran Charles Hallgren. Hallgren served from 1968 – 1971 as a Specialist 5th Class as a Medic in the 3rd Squadron of the 5th Cavalry. A lifelong resident of Windsor, Hallgren graduated from Windsor High School in 1965. He is currently a nursing home administrator in Bristol.
Any groups, including scout troops or youth sport teams wishing to march in the parade should meet at the corner of East and Pleasant Street between 8:30 – 8:45 AM to assemble.
In case of rain, there will be one single ceremony in the Town Hall Council Chambers at 10:00am. Contact Enita Jubrey at 285-1835 with any other questions.

FLAGS MARK GRAVES OF TOWN’S VETERANS
Members of the Windsor Holiday Observance Committee and local scout troops have placed grave marker flags on the graves of all veterans and those who served in the military in recognition of the Memorial Day holiday. If family members notice that a flag has not been properly placed at a loved one’s gravesite in Windsor please contact Enita Jubrey at 285-1835 so a marker flag is installed before Memorial Day services which are scheduled for Monday, May 25, 2009.
American Flags to be Collected for Proper Disposal
The Town of Windsor Holiday Observance Committee will have barrels available on the Windsor Town Green at the town’s 10:00 AM Memorial Day observance on Monday, May 25 for residents to drop off tattered or worn American flags.
When the American flag is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.
The committee will properly destroy the flags in a dignified manner with a flag burning ceremony later this summer.
