LTC Nugent Military Bio

LIEUTENANT COLONEL (LTC) ROBERT M. NUGENT last served as the Regimental Operations Officer at the 169th Regional Training Institute at Camp Niantic, in Niantic Connecticut. In that capacity he coordinated and implemented the Commander's strategic operational and training goals. Developed and implemented orders and policies to provide quality assurance for all schools and courses conducted by the Regiment.

 

A native of Bog Walk, St. Catherine, Jamaica, LTC Nugent attended Crescent All Age School in Spanish Town and graduated from Dinthill Technical High School in 1981. He migrated to Bloomfield, Connecticut in 1982. He enlisted in the Connecticut Army National Guard in March 1984 and served as an Infantry soldier with the 1st of 169th Infantry until June 1989. He later attended OCS (Officer Candidate School) and received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant, Ordnance in 1989.

His military education includes the Command and General Staff College, Combined Arms Services Staff School, Ordnance Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Officer Course. LTC Nugent received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Connecticut in 1992 and a Master of Science Degree in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1999.

 

His key military assignments include Platoon Leader, Shop Officer and Company Commander, Company B, 143rd Forward Support Battalion. S-4, 143rd Forward Support Battalion, TAC Officer and Instructor 1/169th Leader Regiment, Maintenance Officer and Administrative Officer, 143rd Area Support Group, Executive Officer 143rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion.

 

He is a combat veteran who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom as a member of the Security Directorate, and Joint Area Support Group Baghdad from September 2004 to October 2005.

 

LTC Nugent's Military Awards include: the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with one Silver Oak leaf cluster and three bronze oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Reserve Component Achievement Award with one silver oak leaf cluster and two bronze oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with one star, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve medal with M device, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon.

 

He is an Active Guard Officer currently attending the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks in Carlisle, PA. He is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post 4740 in Windsor and a Realtor at Century 21, Wm. R Smith Realty. LTC Robert Nugent resides in Windsor with wife Cecilia and their two sons Julian and Nathan. Both children are students at the Windsor High School.
