Youth Services Bureau programs September-December 2017

 

September 8: The Windsor Youth Services Bureau and Windsor Police Department invite families to come out and play at our Back to School Community Block Party on Friday, September 8 at Sharshon Park. Rain location is 330 Windsor Ave Community Center. This event runs from 4:30PM until 7:30PM and admission is FREE. Enjoy carnival games, tie dye shirts, face painting, music, bounce-house, and free food!  This event is created by youth in the Summer Teen Employment Program to promote family fun and community spirit in a substance free environment. October 14: American Red Cross Certified Babysitter’s Training Class will be held at 330 Windsor Avenue Community Center from 9:00am – 2:30pm on Saturday, October 14.  Babysitter’s Trainingis designed to teach 11-15 year olds how to: respond to emergencies with first aid, rescue breathing and more, make good decisions under pressure, communicate effectively with parents, recognize safety and hygiene issues, manage young children, feed, diaper and care for infants, and start a babysitting business! Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a certification card.  $90.00 per participant.  Offered by the Youth Services Bureau.  Register online or at the Recreation and Leisure Services Office located at 599 Matianuck Ave. 860-285-1990.

 

October 21: First Aid and CPR Class will be held at 330 Windsor Avenue Community Center from 9:00am – 2:30pm for youth 12 to 18 years old on Saturday, October 21. Youth will be taught First Aid (2 year certification) on how to respond to common first aid emergencies, including burns; cuts; head, neck back injuries and more, CPR/AED (2 year certification) learn how to respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies in adults, including the use of automated external defibrillators (AED).  Please bring a bag lunch.  $55.00 per participant. November 1: Out of Your Hands: Your Teen’s Digital Footprint is offered by the Windsor Youth Services Bureau and is intended for youth ages 10-18 years old. This class is held at 330 Windsor Avenue Community Center from 6:00pm-7:30pm on Wednesday, November 1. This class will cover issues surrounding your child’s “digital footprint”. Topics will include posting on social media, sending e-mails, texting, online shopping, passwords, photo sharing, and related issues. This workshop places special emphasis on protecting your child’s reputation.  Free.  Register online or at the Recreation and Leisure Services Office located at 599 Matianuck Ave. 860-285-1990.

 

November 4: Home Alone Safety Class is offeredby the Windsor Youth Services is for all boys and girls, 8 to 13 years old, who are ever home alone at 330 Windsor Avenue Community Center from 10:00am-12:00pm on Saturday, November 4. The course will cover all the safety concerns parents have when their children are by themselves. Students will learn to be more aware of the potential dangers they could face when left home alone. November 8: Resume Boot Camp workshop will be held at 330 Windsor Avenue Community Center from 6:00pm – 8:00pm on Wednesday, November 8. Come and learn the most important components to improve your resume that will help you get employed! You’ll learn how to create and improve your resume, pick out references, create cover letters, and learn interview skills. This workshop is offered by the Youth Services Bureau to high school students at no cost.  Register online or at the Recreation and Leisure Services Office located at 599 Matianuck Ave. 860-285-1990.
