ConnPACE
This prescription assistance program helps people who are at least 65 years old or who are disabled, to save money on their medicines by limiting their cost to $16.25 per prescription. Income limits are usually adjusted each April. Current income limits are $21,400 for a single person and $28,900 for a couple. You may be able to get 120 pills, or a 30 day supply whichever is greater. The Conn PACE application fee is $30.00. ConnPACE sends a renewal form when it is time to renew.

 

Connecticut Home Care for Elders Program
It is possible to have various kinds of personal care and assistance in the home for people who are at least 65 years old and unable to care for themselves if they meet certain asset limits.

 

Elderly Property Tax Relief
If you are 65 years old or disabled, you can apply for a reduction in your property tax assessment. Applications are taken at the Assessor’s Office in the Town Hall. You must have income under certain limits and you may be entitled to other reductions if you are legally blind or a veteran. Applications are taken each year between starting February 15 and May 15. Food Stamp Program
The Food Stamp Program provides monthly benefits that help low-income households buy the food they need for good health. Under agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, state public assistance agencies run the program through their local offices.

Eligibility for food stamps is based on household income and assets. The amount of food stamps eligible persons receive will depend on the number of people in the household, income, rent and utility expenses. Medicaid
Medical assistance is provided by the State to people who are very low income and low asset. There are several levels of help available, based on age, income and asset levels.

 

Qualified Medicare Beneficiary Program
The government will provide supplemental insurance and/or refund the Part B Medicare premium for people who meet income and asset limits. It may also help to lower prescription costs for people who have Medicare D prescription coverage.

 

Renter’s Rebate
If you rent, you may qualify for a rebate on the rent you pay. You must be 65 years of age or older, or on Social Security Disability if under the age of 65. You must provide proof of annual income and the amount you paid year for utilities and rent in 2006. If you are disabled, you must show current proof of disability. The filing period is between May and September 2007. Contact the Windsor Housing Authority Office at 285-8090 for an appointment.

 

 

Weatherization
Free assistance in weatherizing a home or apartment is available to eligible seniors. Call 1-800-842-1132 for more information and application requirements.

 

Windsor's Community Development Housing Rehabilitation Program
This program offers financial and technical assistance to eligible residential property owners. The intent of the program is to preserve Windsor's housing stock and provide safe decent housing for low/moderate income people. The financial assistance is in the form of low interest loans and can include the correction of housing code violations, energy conservation and modifications to improve handicapped accessibility.
