Birthday Cheer
Volunteers outreach to
others in the community by bringing them
balloons and/or other party favors as
remembrances of their birthdays.
Friendly Shoppers
Friendly Shoppers are
volunteers who help you with your shopping. They
do this by either going shopping for you or
accompanying you to the store. Volunteers who
participate in this program must complete an
application, provide references, and take part
in a training program preparing them to
appropriately provide services to you.
Friendly Visitors
Friendly Visitors are
volunteers who visit with you in your home each
week. Like the Friendly Shoppers, they too must
apply to participate in this program, provide us
with references, and undergo a training program
that prepares them for helping you. There are no
specific duties assigned to Friendly Visitors,
unlike the Friendly Shopper who is specifically
available to help with shopping, Friendly
Visitors are available to visit with you.
You may choose to simply talk to them during
visits, or you may play games with them, watch
TV, or anything else that makes their
companionship to you more meaningful.
Home Helpers
We maintain a list of
people in the community who have volunteered to
help people like you with ordinary tasks that
you might not be able to do. These "Home
Helpers" are available to change light
bulbs, put new batteries in smoke detectors, and
a variety of other small chores which you may
not be able to perform. They are not intended to
perform services for which you would ordinarily
pay a professional to do.
Make a Difference in Your
Community; Become Involved
Windsor C.A.R.E.S.,
(Citizens Assisting Residents Everywhere by
Sharing) consists of energetic adults who help out
in a variety of projects in the Windsor area.
Recent projects include making sandwiches for the
homeless, soliciting food and personal care items
for the Windsor Food Bank, preparing a meal for a
shelter, co-hosting an ice cream social for WILA.
If you are at least 18 years of age, this club
provides an excellent opportunity to become
involved in your community and to help those who
are in need. Call 285-1839 for more information.
Telephone Reassurance
The Telephone Reassurance
program is a program intended to provide a means
of checking on your well being on a regular
basis. With your permission, we make
arrangements with a volunteer to call you on a
regular basis at agreed upon times and days. The
purpose of his or her call is to have you answer
the phone and let the caller know that you are
all right. If you do not answer the phone, the
volunteer will alert whomever you have
designated that there was no response to the
call. The designated person is then responsible
for checking on you as soon as possible.
Windsor Community Service
Council
Through the efforts of the
American Legion Auxiliary, the Council was
founded in 1967. The Council is made up of
Windsor volunteers who are concerned about
people in need. The Council supports the Windsor
Food Bank, the Windsor Fuel Bank, and the
holiday programs.
Windsor Food Bank
Food Bank volunteers assist
at the Town of Windsor Food Bank located at the
LP Wilson Community Center. Volunteers are
needed to assist in the food bank once a month.
Duties include bagging produce, putting food
items on shelves, sorting bags and other
miscellaneous duties. For more information,
please contact Steve Carter in Social Services
at 285-1842.
