Neighborhood Assistance Act Tax Credit Program

Once again, the Town of Windsor will be participating in the State of Connecticut’s Neighborhood Assistance Act (NAA) Tax Credit Program.  The NAA Program, administered through the Department of Revenue Services, benefits eligible municipal and tax-exempt organizations by providing a financial inducement to corporate donors.

Donors approved for participation in the program receive a 60% tax credit against their corporate tax liability, subject to certain restrictions.  Organizations wishing to take advantage of this opportunity are responsible for soliciting their own corporate contributions.  The municipal role in the program is limited to 1) making eligible organizations aware of the opportunity to participate, 2) holding a public hearing to solicit public comment on all applications received, and 3) acting on all applications for submittal to the Department of Revenue Services.

Interested organizations can call Jim Hallisey of the Office of Community Development at 285-1985 for a copy of the application.

Tree Replacement on Pierson Lane

I want to update the Town Council and the residents regarding the plans for the replacement of the trees on a section of Pierson Lane.  This issue was brought to the Council's attention this last year.  Years ago, a line of tall, thin trees were planted along Pierson Lane between the sidewalk and the street.  This type of tree: Columnar English Oak, is nearing the end of its service life, and needs to be removed.  Public Works has already removed some of these trees, and the remaining 16 between Kennedy Road and Sleepy Hollow Circle are scheduled to be removed this week.

We plan to replace these trees this spring with another variety which has a longer service life.  This variety of tree: Zelkova is an excellent street tree that will add beauty and shade to this street for years to come.  Public Works will have 24 of the Zelkovas planted this spring.

This Weekend's Snow Storm

This last weekend's snow storm brought several inches of wet snow and sleet to the area.  This "nasty" combination of precipitation wrecked havoc with the snow removal effort on our streets, and for all of us on our sidewalks and driveways.  On the streets, the snow became quickly compacted to the street and turned icy.  Public Works is continuing to remove this "snow pack" from the streets in certain residential neighborhoods today, and is expected to have it removed by tomorrow.  Public Works wants to thank everyone for their patience.  Please call 285-1855 if you have any concerns regarding this matter.
