There’s a lot to do in Windsor

Copies of the winter edition of There’s a lot to do in Windsor were delivered to residents over the New Years holiday the Reminder Community Newspaper.  In addition to January through April programs and activities, this issue includes the Citizen’s Guide to Windsor’s Town Budget – basic information about the budget process.  Extra copies of the brochure are available at all town facilities or by calling 285-1835.

Fuel Bank Assistance

During these cold winter months, and with the price of fuel escalating, the town has seen increased inquiries for fuel assistance.  The phone number for CRT (Community Renewal Team) is 560-5800.  It is an automated voice system, so callers should listen carefully to the prompts.  Appointments are scheduled through the CRT office in Hartford, but there is a CRT representative that meets Windsor residents for their appointments here in Windsor at the L.P. Wilson Community Center.  If an applicant is ineligible for CRT, have already received all of their CRT deliveries, or are having an emergency, they can contact the Human Services Department at 683-1068 or 285-1842 to learn other options.

Police Department Receives Grants

The Police Department was recently approved for two grants.  The first is from the Department of Transportation Driving Under the Influence Enforcement Grant Program in the amount of $76,700.  These funds are available for use from November 2007 through September 2008. Grant funds were awarded to the town based on our continued proactive enforcement of drunk driving laws.  Enforcement has been and will continue to be conducted by officers at checkpoints and on routine patrols.  It is this type of enforcement that has kept the number of alcohol related crashes to an average of 8.66 per year for the last three years.  In addition, there have been no alcohol related fatal crashes in the last three years.

The second grant was funded through the Department of Transportation’s Seatbelt Enforcement Program in the amount of $9,000 in November.  During the Thanksgiving weekend, this enforcement action, in conjunction with proactive patrol enforcement, made the Town of Windsor the most active municipal police department (statewide), with regard to traffic safety.
