Public Service
Our employees and volunteers provide a
wide range of diverse services to our citizens, visitors and
businesses each day. On an annual basis our employees:
-
Respond to over 9,500 Emergency 911 calls, 1,400 fire
calls, and 3,400 medical calls
- Offer
over 730 recreation programs
-
Deliver 11,000 meals to elderly residents
-
Administer 1,400 doses of flu vaccine
-
Process over 10,000 vendor payments
-
Conduct thousands of fire and building code inspections
- Loan
over 285,000 library items
-
Maintain 136 miles of roads
-
Contributed $10,000 to United Way in 2007
As you can see we
are indeed in the business of providing public services. We
often ask employees to take time to reflect on how in the
course of a 24 hour period the Town affects the life of a 14
year old. When you step back and answer that question it is
quite profound.
- There
are safe neighborhoods, parks, athletic fields
- Public
computers at the library
-
Recreation programs at PAL, NWP, or L.P. Wilson
Community Center
- Safe
schools with talented teachers
- Safe
clean restaurants to patronize
-
Grandparents can be brought to and from medical
appointments allowing parents to work a full day
The dedication and
effort they put forth day in and day out makes Windsor the
quality community that it is.
My sincere thanks
and appreciation goes out to all of our employees and
volunteers.

Traffic
Enforcement Effort
As reported in March
the Police Department was awarded a $19,990 speed
enforcement grant. The funding is from the State of
Connecticut Department of Transportation and is a multi-town
effort to initiate speed enforcement twice a week for two
months in the various towns. As a result of this grant the
Town of Windsor will see five dedicated days of speed
enforcement on Windsor roads over the two month period.
On May 1st
the collaborative effort was in Windsor for approximately 3
hours at two different locations. The detail consisted of
six Windsor officers and four others from partner agencies.
We also had a dedicated Public Safety Dispatcher to assist
the ten officers.
The first location
was on Rainbow Road. This is a 30 mph zone and at this
location, 34 tickets were issued, along with 1 summons, and
one warning. One motorist was also arrested for an active
arrest warrant.
The second location
was Windsor Avenue near Ford Road. Laser was used to detect
speeding vehicles traveling south on Windsor Avenue. This is
a 35 mph zone and 42 tickets were issues along with 2
warnings.
In addition to
speeding violations, several drivers were additionally cited
for no seat belt and operating without proof of insurance.
